Advanced Certificate Program on IFRS: Implementation and Compliance - KPMG in India

Advanced Certificate Program on IFRS: Implementation and Compliance - KPMG in India

Over 100 Countries have formally accepted IFRS to bring out standardization and greater comparability in presentation of financial statements. Starting April 1, 2011, as per ICAI concept paper, every listed company in India may be required to adopt International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). It’s a very short time when it comes to a major overhaul of the accounting process. Not to forget that the investing community needs to be familiarized with the changes in the balance sheet. Little wonder then, that some companies are trying to get a head start and will for the first time this year, publish their results not just in Indian GAAP but also in IFRS.
The convergence process not only requires training people but also requires accounting software and systems to be changed to make them compatible with the new standard.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
The program focuses on training finance professionals in issues that they would be facing during IFRS implementation in their organizations. The program provides an in-depth analysis of the accounting and disclosure requirements under IFRS. The program presents the information needed to navigate complex issues surrounding the recognition and measurement of items under IFRS.

The program also keeps the Indian financial reporting requirements (Indian GAAP) in perspective and explains the differences between Indian GAAP and IFRS. This helps the participants to appreciate the major areas of difference and thus provides necessary information and know-how to restate Indian Financial Statements as per IFRS.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Integrated Risk Management Seminar - 2009

Integrated Risk Management Seminar - 2009

For some 'Business is Risk' for some others 'Risk is Business'. Which ever way we take, risk determines the reward of doing and being in business. All theories of finance aim at identification and mitigation of risk. Risk can have various names like operational, credit or market risks and it is therefore essential that organisations learn to recognize these different kinds of risk and manage them

So, is Risk Management a new buzzword or a basic necessity in the growing dynamics of global business?

The exposure of the business is no longer restricted to local or national levels and any event from Colorado to Kolkata affects the business. Since risk is such an integral part, can we avoid risk? Or is identification of risk and reduction in uncertainty more important than its sheer avoidance?

Every risk brings with it an opportunity and tests the appetite to make use of it. To explore this and much more on risk, its identification and opportunity

NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON Integrating Spirituality and Mathematical Science

NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON
Integrating Spirituality and Mathematical Science

December 21 - 23, 2009

After conducting series of International Conferences on different dimensions of integrating spirituality and management Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi now announces a 3 day National Workshop on “Integrating Spirituality and Mathematical Science” during December 21 – 23, 2009 at University of Delhi.

The Background

In India Mathematical science and spirituality have always gone together as the roots being same – Vedas. According to Vedic mathematics all of mathematics is based on sixteen sutras or word – formulae, for example, vertically and crosswise is one of the Sutras. These formulae describe the way the mind naturally works and therefore a great help in directing the student to the appropriate method of solution. Hence, the researchers put Vedic maths as the technology and science of order and precision, which maintains the uprightness of unity and also spreads variety with it. It is also said to be the Natural Law's structuring dynamic; it instinctively designs the source and goal of natural law, which is the orderly theme of evolution. Thus Vedic science includes gathering inner knowledge through reason and experimentation leading to direct perception of truth. The proposed workshop intends to initiate discussions on logical – mathematical approach to understand the nature of consciousness.

The Rationale

Recognizing the importance and place of the outer and inner sciences, the workshop will make the participants learn to integrate both to create harmony in our lives at all levels. Our technical capabilities are increasing at an enormous speed as compare to the development of values in modern societies. This is creating almost an empty culture. We need a broadly accepted spirituality in the present time that gives us purpose and meaning beyond the necessities of daily existence.

The Focus

There will be various panel discussions and resource persons delivering more theoretical kind of talks under the broad theme of “Integration Spirituality and of Mathematical Science”. This broad theme will contain the thoughts related to origin of natural sciences and systematic spiritual practices.

The deliberations will focus on:

  1. Logical Mathematical Approach to Spirituality.
  2. Mathematical Science as a Form of Spirituality and Spirituality as a Type of Science.
  3. The Concept of Time and Space Vis – A- Vis Spirituality.
  4. Mathematical Science And Supra-mental Consciousness
  5. Mathematical Science and Mystical Experience.
  6. Conscious Mind and Cognitive Artificial Intelligence.
  7. Religio – Spiritual Sources Of Modern Science

Who can Attend

The proposed workshop intends to bring together the doctoral students, particularly young ones, working in the area of Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Management, Life Sciences, Psychology, Philosophy, Spirituality and Religion on one platform to discuss the rationalistic – scientific approach to spirituality.

Surprise, Function and Experience: How Innovativeness and Utilitarian and Hedonic Attributes Affect Consumer Word of Mouth

Surprise, Function and Experience: How Innovativeness and Utilitarian and Hedonic Attributes Affect Consumer Word of Mouth

Abstract:
We propose and empirically test a theory to explain the volume and type of consumer word of mouth for products. Our theory builds on Chitturi et al’s (2008) theoretical framework and includes innovativeness as a stimulant of word of mouth. The theory leads to four sets of hypotheses. The first two are regarding the effects of utilitarian and hedonic attributes and the third is related to the role of innovativeness. Specifically, the hypotheses related to the role of utilitarian attributes are that satisfying consumers on such attributes does not generate positive word of mouth while not pleasing them on those attributes results in negative word of mouth. The hypotheses related to hedonic attributes state that pleasing consumers on those attributes leads to positive word of mouth but that not doing so does not stimulate negative word of mouth. The third set of hypotheses are that innovativeness increases the volume of word of mouth but that it could increase both positive and negative word of mouth simultaneously. The fourth set of hypotheses is related to the effects of ignoring the role of innovativeness in analyzing consumer word of mouth. We expect this to result in two types of effects: inflated estimates of the effects of utilitarian and hedonic attributes on word of mouth and incorrect signs for the effects. We test the theory empirically on consumer word of mouth over a seven year period for 279 models of automobiles across 36 brands. All four sets of hypotheses are supported by our empirical results and suggest that utilitarian and hedonic attributes play very different roles in consumer word of mouth. Specifically, utilitarian attributes are the primary determinants of negative word of mouth in that, if products are not satisfactory on those attributes, consumers are likely to express their unhappiness to other consumers. Satisfying consumers on these attributes, however, does not necessarily lead to positive word of mouth. Hedonic attributes, on the other hand, are primarily responsible for positive word of mouth in that, if they are pleased with the performance of products on those attributes, consumers are likely to discuss the positive aspects of the products with other consumers. Not pleasing consumers on these attributes, on the other hand, is unlikely to stimulate negative word of mouth. Product innovativeness plays a role that is different from that of product attributes. Specifically, innovativeness can lead to both negative and positive word of mouth. Additionally, because of this dual effect, omitting innovativeness from an analysis of the role of product attributes in consumer word of mouth can lead to inflated and incorrect estimates of their effects. We also present the managerial implications of our findings.
